We Are Here
By Greg Hart

Published by Milagro Corn Company
“Loss, love, the transience of life, and restorative qualities of nature feature in this poignantly lyrical collection by educator and poet Greg Hart. There's a transcendent spiritual quality in the poems. ‘I think there is something in us, / that is not us, / that is the best of us,’ he writes. He finds consolation in being part and parcel of a kind of universal nature.”

ABOUT THE BOOK
A Collection of Poems
We Are Here is a collection of poems rooted in lived experience and shaped by sustained attention to the particulars of daily life, relationships, landscape, and time. Set in part against the landscapes of the American Southwest, the work moves between narrative and lyric modes while maintaining a clear and measured voice. Rather than moving toward abstraction, the poems remain close to observed experience, allowing meaning to emerge through detail and accumulation.
A recurring refrain, “we are here”, functions less as declaration than as a form of orientation, grounding the work in presence and awareness. The collection draws in part from a many decades-long marriage and the illness and death of the poet's beloved wife, while engaging more broadly with questions of memory, perception, and the conditions of being present within impermanence.
In its attentiveness and restraint, We Are Here aligns with a tradition of contemporary American poetry concerned with clarity, perception, and the intersection of the personal and the universal.
